The patient was anesthetized and placed in dorsal recumbency.
The feathers over the right orbital region were plucked and the
area was aseptically prepared with dilute betadine.
The superior and inferior lid margins were grasped with hemostats
for improved visualization of the right globe. A limbal stab
incision was made with a number 15 scalpel blade. Using Steven's
tenotomy scissors, the cornea was excised 360 degrees. The
uvea, lens, vitreous body and retinal were removed by using gently
blunt dissection with a Wecker iris spatula. The Wecker iris
spatula and cotton-tipped applicators were used to dissect uveal
tissue and the orbital contents from any fibrous attachments.
Cotton-tipped applicators were used to control hemorrhage with
gentle direct pressure.
The upper and lower eyelids were excised with the third eyelid
and conjunctival tissue left in place. The subcutaneous tissue
and
skin was apposed in two layers with 4-0 PDS in a buried, simple
continuous/running pattern.
